Heyho!

Hello... I've not written in for a week. So here goes my update! School has sadly started :( urhhh.. I want a longer holiday so that I could spend my time relaxing more and just not thinking about school. I think I did more playing during this holiday than studying. I'm really dreading for the coming Geog exam on Friday. I'm only like 5% done with it.. arghhhh. I better use my time wisely during the two day exam breaks (yeah, I got 2 days without any exams haha, which I can use for extra studying hours). Today's exams are Chinese and GP and both of them are horrible. Chinese is typical Chinese, so I don't know whether I'd say it is ok or hard. GP.. urghhh.. I didn't write enough for the application question (you know me, when I say things, I do not exaggerate it.) Now I could only cross my fingers and hope for the best for both papers.

You know I do secretly wish that if only exam overall results are based on Maths tests only. Hahha.. I'd be damn happy =D

So, one of the World Cup teams that I supported, Netherlands, is out. It's kinda sad, though I think they could have done better in the tournament. I don't know why, but they are not as solid as I expected they would be. So the two remaining teams which I support are Germany and Spain. Both teams really play well and beautifully. Ehm.. maybe I'm secretly supporting Argentina as well (I only managed to catch them playing in the 2nd half of their match against Holland.. nonetheless they are good). It's sooooooooooo sad that Germany will be facing Argentina next. Two great teams playing each other :( Why must it be soooo early? At least I can give a sigh of relief that if ever Germany meets Spain, it would be in the Finals haha. Hopefully that will be the final.

I realised 2 weeks ago that the final of the World Cup will be on the same day as the Coldplay Concert. The match will be in the morning. Haha.. good luck to me. May I not doze off and faint during Coldplay Concert.

I watched Napoleion Dynamite and Donnie Darko (Jakee!!) last week. Both of them are from different genres, but are good and interesting in their own ways. Donnie Darko's plot may be too complex and heavy for some people though. At first, I kinda get the story, though there are some questions about the movie. Only after I read Wikipedia's entry on the movie that finally all the scenes and events in the movie makes sense to me.

I better start doing my Economics and Chinese Homework. Later dudes :)

Movie Reviews
Napoleon Dynamite (7.5 out of 10 stars)
I found the movie really amusing. And now, when I think about it, I find it even more amusing haha. The plot is very original and creative. The jokes are really hilarious. Anyone who enjoys comedy will enjoy this movie. Oh, and the soundtrack is so retro and infectious haha (you can hear them in the movie's official website). At the official website, I found a printed iron-out version of "vote for pedro" for t-shirt. I want that shirt!!!

Donnie Darko (7.5 out of 10 stars)
The plot was rather confusing at first. Only after the story is coming to an end that you will finally be able to piece the things together. The atmosphere of the movie, I find, is kinda freaky, although there are not really horror elements in the movie. Just some interesting, freaky things. I do wonder how the director manages to come up with such complicated, complex story. The layer of it is amazing. To enjoy this movie, you must pay close attention to details. Or else, you'll miss the important bits. I don't know why, but some scenes of Jake reminds me of his role in Jarhead haha. If you have watched both movies, you'll get what I mean ;)

Back to study (not)

Hello people. I'm already back in Singapore. So ya, in the end, I didn't get much things from Hong Kong. Well at least better than nothing right? ^^ At least I have bought Donnie Darko DVD! Yayyyyyy! So happy! I recorded the show from Channel 5 last year, but I can barely understand the words that were spoken there. It was so muffled >.< Hahaha.. so one of the coming days hopefully I'll watch the movie (and ogle at Jake Gyllenhaal. Haha).

Over the course of 6 days, I managed to watch 4 movies haha. They are Daisy, O Brother Where Are Thou, Shawshank Redemption (at last I managed to find this movie haha) and the Truman Show. All of them are fantastic shows haha. Actually, coming to think of it, I'm getting more picky about watching movies haha. So far the movies that I watched this year are great, or at least bearable (ehm.. Ladder 49 is barely bearable haha).

(All are reviewed below..)

This year, there's one mistake that I'm still rather guilty of. There was a girl whom I spoke to, and she said that "Fight Club" is her favourite movie. I don't know what goes into my mind, but at that point, I told her, "Do you know that the guy who directs that movie is Madonna's husband?" Arghhhhh... that may be one of the biggest error a movie fanatic could commit. I actually confused it with another Brad Pitt movie haha. "Fight Club" <----> "Snatch" *sigh*

I want to watch Fight Club!

So, the early arrival to Singapore is supposedly to provide time for studying. Sadly, these past few days have been really unproductive. I've been either going online for a long period or watching football matches (yay Holland and England!) till about 2 am. At least today I had resumed my Chem revision. I should be done with Chem tomorrow...

I had a really strange dream in Hong Kong. Try to link Ari Wibowo (an Indo actor), LV and Christian Bale haaha.

Later =)

Movie Reviews
Shawshank Redemption (8.5 stars out of 10)
I guess this will go to one of my favourite movie lists (though Eternal Sunshine will still occupy the #1 spot). After watching this, now I understand why it occupies #2 spot (just under the Godfather) in the IMDb's top 250 movie list of all time. A great movie on hope and friendship. Though it doesn't make me cry, it's a great, touching movie. The plot is great as well, I like the twist in the end. The cinematography is breathless as well. Surprising, my Father watched this movie along with me haha. It's a surprise since usually he prefers action movies. Well, wonders of the world! Anyway, if you're a movie aficionado, then this movie is a must watch!

The Truman Show (8.5 stars out of 10)
While Shawshank is a more of a serious, great drama, The Truman Show is more of light-hearted, although it doesn't make it less great than Shawshank. The story is truly original, and really reflects today's obsessions with reality TV. Well, in the movie, the main character (played brilliantly by Jim Carrey) didn't even know that he was in a reality show. I love how the movie also pays a lot of attention to details actually. *spoilers alert* For example, the movie answers the question why Laura Linney's character tend to elaborate on details of the products used in the show without being told by anyone else. It's because.. since the show was 24-hour, the show relies on product placement for its income.*spoilers end* The ending of the story was kind of predictable as the show goes on, but at least, the movie ended in style (you'll get why I write this when you watched the show). Anyway, I think everybody must watch this movie haha.

Man of Constant Sorrow and Pain

Hello. It's been raining like mad in Hong Kong =( The weather really sucks haha. Nevertheless, I had been braving my way through the rain for the past few days to do some shopping haha. I had visited both Lai Chi Kok and Sham Shui Po, which are my favourite shopping haunts in Hong Kong. However, my adventure (haha) yielded very little 'harvests'. I only had bought 3 t-shirts, 1 skirt and 1 balero (I don't know really know its proper name heh), clothing-wise. Ya. That pales in comparison to my shopping trip in March, in which I managed to buy a lot of stuff haha. Anyway, better than nothing right? *tries to comfort herself*

Other stuff that I've bought:
-A mickey mouse bag
-5 or 6 DVDs

Hahahaha... -.-"

Anyway, I met Steph today haha. Did some walking with her and her family around Mong Kok. As you've probably guessed, it was raining... albeit lightly. Compared to the weather 2 days ago, it was nothing haha. The people here used the term "black rain" to describe it. I'm still not sure how to differentiate normal rain and black rain haha. The rain was so bad that the normal bus service from my apartment complex that goes to the market was temporarily suspended. Heh.

On my flight to Hong Kong, I watched a Korean film called Daisy. It was really nice haha. As usual, I cried gallons of tears haha. It's not a typical romantic story you know. If you're the kind who likes touchy romantic stuff, this movie is a must-watch haha. 2 days ago, I watched "O Brother, Where Are Thou?" It's a great movie, very hilarious.

(The movies are reviewed below)

Oh ya by the way, the SQ plane which I travelled on to Hong Kong doesn't have the Wisemen 3000 system, which means that there were only limited number of newer releases being shown, and that you can't rewind and fast forward the movie haha. Hopefully my flight home will have that system. (Or else I will rot on the airplane, since other than Daisy, I really don't know what other movies to watch.)

I'm still contemplating of buying Donnie Darko DVD. It costs HK$100, which is about S$19. I wonder if it's easy or hard to find in Indo, since if it's easy to find, I don't think I'll buy it here. I'll see how it goes..

Grr... there are no World Cup telecasts being shown on my TV (since I don't subscribe cable service in Hong Kong). My life without football during World Cup season is really weird :S

Later dudes :)

Movie Reviews
Daisy (7.5 out of 10 stars)
If you like watching emotional Korean movies, you must watch this movie. Be warned, you may need to bring lots of tissues. I cried madly while watching the last part of the show, cause the show ended rather tragically. The story is not that kind where boy meets girl, they fall in love, then they are not meant to be together since got some complications along the way, then complication is solved and they live happily ever after haha (adjusts accordingly). It's more complicated, which makes it nice =)

O Brother, Where Art Thou? (7.5 out of 10 stars)
The title of this journal comes from a song from this movie. This movie is very hilarious, and its plot was kinda original (except that it was inspired by The Odyssey written by Homer). The accent spoken in the movie was a bit hard to catch though, which forces me to switch on the Simplified Chinese subtitle haha (it doesn't have English subtitle). Pay attention to some details of conversations on the front part of the movie, then at the end of the movie, you'll go wahh haha. (Once you watch the movie, you'll get it.) George Clooney's character sang in the movie, sadly his voice got dubbed haha. I wonder how he sounds like singing in real life. This movie is by Coen brothers (which also did Fargo), whose comedic remake of the Ladykillers I didn't like at all. This is a far greater comedic film by them that I truly enjoy. Ah, and I like the oldies soundtrack as well haha.

Off To Hongkong

Hello peeps :) I'm in Changi Airport now, using the free internet access haha. I'm going to Hong Kong now for about a week. Hope you guys continue to enjoy your holiday!

By the way, if anyone is interested in going for fashion show, please sms me or e-mail me for tickets. I need to sell freakin 10 tickets to get CIP hours. So you can help in the cause by buying tickets from me haha (okay I sounded really desperate). Anyway, seriously, the money will seriously be of a good cause for the organisation that benefits from this event.

(details for the event is on the previous journal)

I wonder what movies are showing in Singapore Airlines.. haha. Hopefully there are some good old ones, since I'm not that interested in newer releases (e.g pink panther <-- not interested).

Cheers and later =)

P.S. steph, don't forget to call me when you reach.

That's fast..

Hello people. A week without update from me, and guess what, I've just come back from Indo haha. I know it's a bit late, but this morning I realised that, I've not written here that ACSian Theatre have won Gold with Honours hahahaha.. so happy. So all the late staying back days have paid off really well =)

I did nothing much in Indo, except playing the latest version of one of my favourite computer games, "Heroes of Might and Magic" (Hahaha Mos do you remember this game?) and watching E! channel (haha a great crappy channel to waste your time on =D). I only watched one movie, "High Fidelity", and it's disappointing. It has 7.4/10 rating in IMdB haha (or around there), and the movie is based on a novel by Nick Hornby (whose "About A Boy" I really enjoyed reading). Nevertheless, I'm kinda interested to read the novel, and then I'd compare it to the movie version haha (anyway, the movie is reviewed below, as usual).

Movie Review
High Fidelity (6.5 out of 10 stars)
The movie started off really well, but it gets draggy towards the end. I mistook this film for another John Cusack movie which I'd like to watch hahaha. I thought that Jack Black really brought life to this movie. He was soo dammn funny haha. The last part was quite amusing, and he surprisingly sang rather well in the movie (or is it someone else's voice?) Anyway, I have nothing more to say lol.
